APS - encapsulation

The Company's 'APS' encapsulation system (used for taste masking,  to control nutrient and drug delivery and to encapsulate cells such as bacteria) has proved to be an effective system for the encapsulation and stabilisation of probiotic bacteria. Long shelf life has been achieved with the technology both in vitro and within formulated food products. Further trials are being conducted and publications are in press.

Commercial trials being conducted with relevant partners.

Synbiotic products are being developed out of this technology.

BLD - oral flash melt

The Glycologic Limited 'BLD' technology is gradually being licensed to more companies interested in oral 'melt' delivery of drugs. As the excipient (beta-limit dextrin) hydrates in the oral cavity, in contact with the oral mucosa, the pharmaceutically active agents within are released. These can then enter the blood stream via the mucosa. Since the dextrin is degraded by alpha-amylase in the saliva, no polysaccharide residue remains within the mouth.

Current trials with partners are progressing very well.

Applications using the material as a gelatine replacement in broader clinical/pharmaceutical applications are also being developed.

Clinical Trials

In progress with different partners for different drugs

SERS - hypoglycaemia

Recent trials on the Glycologic Limited 'SERS' technology - to treat hypoglycaemia in type 1 diabetics -has proven to be very successful. These data complement the data generated for healthy individuals using the technology for sports applications and for forms of liver disease such as glycogen storage disease (GSD) and general liver damage. The technology restricts the number and duration of hypoglycaemic events.

Clinicals Trials:

Sports Nutrition - Trials Complete, product successfully test marketed. License in place.

GSD - Phase 3 Complete, product licensed and marketed

Type 1 Diabetes - Phase 2 Complete

Prebiotic

Work is progressing well on the technology for gut health, topical skin care and related health applications (especially vaginal health). Early indications are that the technology provides an effective therapy for Candida albicans infections and other topical condictions of the skin.

For colonic health applications, both animal and human trials have been very successful. In broad terms, the material increases the gut friendly bacteria in the colon and depresses the growth of the pathogenic organisms.

For topical applications, the technology supports infection control and healing.

Clinicals Trials:

Colonic Health: Phase 1-3 Complete, marketing trials initiated in one territory

Vaginal Health: Clinical, Phase 2 in progress, successful outcome to date

Skin Health: Clinical, Phase 2 complete, effective for skin care treatment

GRS - gastric retention

The applications for this technology are being pursued through separate avenues for (i) satiety, (ii) gastric delivery and GORD (GERD) therapy.

Clinicals Trials:

Satiety: Phase 1/2 has proven efficacy for satiety applications

Gastric Retention: Phase 1 trials in progress

GORD: Evaluation with partner progressing under confidential terms

Wound Management

New wound matrix technology proving very effective in-vitro. Licensing arrangements being consolidated.

Diagnostic Kits

Clinical diagnostic kits utilising the Glycologic Limited technology have entered trials in a number of hospitals since 2008.

In addition, other kits designed for specific clients and directed towards detecting carbohydrate derivatives in a number of food and pharmaceutical systems are going live for sales across the world.

Technology licensed to international partner for drink and pharma testing.
